If the thought of civil action sends you into a cold sweat, Perkins Slade and Berrymans Lace Mawer have created a mock trial to help you better understand claims, compensation and the limits of your liability insurance policy.
Each year, more than a thousand sports coaches, officials and volunteers find themselves in civil court forced to defend against allegations of negligence and claims of compensation.
Much of the success of their defence rests on training, support and paperwork. Do you have the right procedures in place? And just how comprehensive is your liability insurance policy?
Perkins Slade, one of the UK’s largest independent brokers and preferred insurance supplier of the Tennis Industry Association have joined forced with leading insurance and dispute resolution law firm Berrymans Lace Mawer to host a mock public liability trial.
This free event aims to highlight the importance of documents and witness evidence in practice, and help delegates understand of the importance of having procedures in place and the effectiveness of insurance cover.
“Hopefully it will never happen to you but those who are involved in sports do sometimes find themselves in court having to defend their actions,” said Richard Doubleday, Managing Director for Sport and Recreation at Perkins Slade.
“This mock trial event will give you a real sense of what really happens, and what you need to do to successfully defend yourself should you find yourself in a similar situation.”
During the event, which will be held at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on February 27, attendees will be invited to join deliberations and predict the outcome of the mock trial between claimant Richard Croft and defendant Kettle Dale Cricket Club Ltd.
Delegates will also gain an insight into the level of scrutiny judges place on an organisation’s training, procedures and paperwork as well as learning how to review evidence and liability insurance policies to see if they will cover any damages awarded.
